Clemon George

Clemon George PhD, joined the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Faculty of Medical Scienes in August 2017. Dr. George lectures in the Public Heath and the MBBS programmes.

Dr. George completed his Doctorate in Epidemiology at I’Université Laval, Québec, Canada and Post-doctoral research at St. Michael’s Hospital/ University of Toronto, Canada. His post-doctoral research involved developing Community Based Participatory Research in Epidemiology. Prior to his appointment at UWI, Dr. George was on the Faculty of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), teaching courses in Health Promotion, Epidemiology and Research Methods. At UOIT, his research focused on sexual health promotion, particularly HIV and STI prevention among minority populations in Canada. He has been involved in HIV research and advocacy for 15 years.

Dr. George was a founding member of the African and Caribbean Council on HIV/AIDS in Ontario (ACCHO) and co-principal investigator of the first African-Caribbean Black Men’s research study in Canada. He has strong affiliations with the Caribbean and has conducted research on sexual health in Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and Dominica. He plans to continue his research on sexual health at UWI, including studying vaccine strategies for sexual health promotion and disease prevention.

Dr. george continues to be an active member of the Scientific Review Committe of teh Canadian HIV Trials Network and has been elected as a member of Canadian Institutes of HEalth Research (CIHR) College of Reviewers.
